Jefferson's Inaugural Address
Jefferson's Inaugural Address
1801
-
This was Jefferson’s way of addressing the country to remind them of their young nature and necessity to have a successful future. Jefferson addressed three main ideas during this address. First, Jefferson pushed for the unity of the country. He is urging people to come together for the good of everyone and for a common goal - for the prosperity of the nation. Second, Jefferson talks about equal rights. He addresses the people who didn’t vote for him as the “minority,” and explains that they shouldn’t be regretful. They have their equal rights which allow them to vote for who they feel is the most qualified. Therefore, their guilt is uncalled for, as it isn’t wrongly based. Last but not least, Jefferson instills his faith regarding the representative based government of the United States. He calls it “the strongest government on Earth,” showing his support for the republican government the United States is governed by, despite what others may think of it.
