The Treaty of Paris
1783
-
The Treaty of Paris of 1783 is the document that formally ended the American Revolutionary War. Talks of peace occurred between British representatives, those of King George III, as well as Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and John Jay. The terms negotiated within the treaty included Britain formally recognizing America's independence and gave most territory east of the Mississippi to the United States. This ultimately allowed for the beginnings of westward expansion and many policies leading into the 1800s.
